works great Jul 15, 2010 I've had the cooktop for a bit over three months now, and while I was a bit skeptical at first, it works just great, even at low power! There have been claims that this is faster than gas, but that certainly would depend on the BTU rating of the gas range, no? Anyway, the Burton is certainly much faster (~300%) than my home gas range.
Simple and Easy to Use Jul 15, 2010 This cooktop is simple and easy to use. It works very well and I actually use it a lot of the time. It saves on gas and electricity, very energy efficient to say the least compared to my actual stove. It's much quieter then my microwave and conserves much of the space other appliances would take up. It heats up and cools down quickly. There is also no flame or gas used at all, so you don't have to be afraid. This is all around better technology for the home in my opinion.
Simply Amazing! Jul 05, 2010 It's like science class when I was in high school. Only the pan's bottom gets hot....that means, no bellowing hot air flooding the room with heat and burnt natural gas. It's wondefully cool cooking. I have an air conditioner, so I have to be careful about generating too much heat or it will make the whole kitchen uncomfortable and that is never a problem with this device.
Negatives are probably due to my old cookware. What I have is quality old, stainless fry pans. The problem is we are all spoiled to teflon technology and what you get with Max Burton is a hot spot on the pan bottom were everything sticks. So, I would say, make a point of getting some good, thick steel pans that will distribute the heat better at the same time you purchase this cooktop.
I love the fact that I can set the temperature which is great for frying food. Simply set the pan at 350-380 and fry chicken 'til the cows come home. With a pan full of oil and preheated to the correct temperature, it really acts like a deep fat fryer. When you add more items to the boiling oil you would expect the oil to cool, but no, since it was set to maintain a temperature the Max Burton turns up the energy and keeps the oil wonderfully hot. Don't overfill or you will press the food into the hotspot and that will cause your chicken to slightly burn on one side. I am thinking that a large Iron pot would be the best thing to fix the hotspot because the heat would be best distributed through thick iron.
Thinking back over the scoring system, regardless of the hot spot, I think it deserves 5 stars dues to the cool technology and the ability to leave my natural gas stove turned off all Summer, and Winter. I can imagine wassail being warmed perfectly warm on a holiday buffet, remember, it has a thermostat, or boiling pasta in a matter of minutes. YES, it does boil water in a very short time, too, and again, no energy is wasted around the sides of the pot. All the energy goes into the food through the pan.
exceptional value Jun 21, 2010 THIS IS THE 3RD UNIT I HAVE PURCHASED. IT'S IDEAL FOR ANYONE LIVING IN A SMALL AREA. IT HEATS UP VERY QUICKLY AND THE SURROUNDING SURFACE STAYS RELATIVELY COOL. MY MOTHER HAS DEMENTIA AND WAS LEAVING HER REGULAR STOVE ON AFTER COOKING SO I GOT A UNIT FOR HER TO USE. SINCE THIS WILL TURN OFF AUTOMATICALLY WHEN YOU REMOVE THE PAN THERE IS LESS FEAR OF A FIRE. IN ADDITION TO THE TIME AND TEMPERATURE SETTINGS WHICH TURNS OFF THE UNIT AS WELL.
I WOULD RECOMMMEND THIS UNIT BECAUSE OF ITS LOW COST BUT EXCELLENT QUALITY FOR THE AVERAGE HOME. GREAT FOR BUFFETS AS WELL.

More good and bad news.... Jun 13, 2010 This great sounding unit worked like a charm for 10 uses... then crapped out. Didn't turn on. Suggestion: If you MUST have one, use the heck out of it for a few weeks. Hopefully if you have a lemon, it'll surface in time to return it. I didn't use it much so now I'm past Amazon's "30 day" return window so I have to go to the manufacturer (oh joy)!
